1990 Eagle Talon ProRally
The Talon is my second ProRally car. The first was a Dodge Shelby that I raced with some success from 1990 through 1996. In 1997 I sold the Dodge and started working on the Talon, which I raced for the first time at the Ojibwe national Pro Rally in 1998 (more about that disaster on the competition page).
The Car
- 1990 Eagle Talon TSI
- 2 litre, 16 valve dual overhead cam turbocharged engine
- All wheel drive
- Limited slip center and rear differentials
- Competes in the Production GT class against other 4-wheel drive, usually turbocharged cars
- Completely street legal including catalytic converter. Passes Minnesota state emissions test every year.
Modifications
These are the modifications required to be eligible for competition in the Production GT class as well as some other performance-enhancing goodies:
- AutoPower roll cage. I went one size over the spec (1.75" x .120" DOM tubing) for additional strength. The cage is tied into the crossmember behind the dashboard, the A-pillars and the rear seat frame for extra bracing.

- TRW 6-point cam-lock harnesses
- Terratrip 404 rally computer
- Terraphone intercom
- GAB rally struts
- Cusco rally springs
- Porterfield carbon kevlar brakes with Motul synthetic brake fluid
- 15" aluminum wheels
- Michelin rally tires
- 4 PIAA 120-watt driving lights
- 90-amp alternator
- ARP cylinder head studs
- Centerforce clutch
- Skid plate under engine compartment
- Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil
- Red Line synthetics in transmission, transfer case and rear differential
- K & N air filter
- Magnecore ignition wires
- 2-meter radio
- 2 on board fire extinguishers
- First aid kit
- DOT reflector triangles
- Hydraulic scissors jack
- Tow rope
