Larson/Cox Take 1999 Wanderin' Star II ClubRally Class Win
The 1999 Wanderin' Star II rally November 27, 1999 was a repeat of the Wanderin' Star event run 6 months earlier in Paris Texas. The difference was that it would be run at night this time. The earlier event had been my first class win on a ClubRally. In addition, my co-driver, Ashley Cox, and I had just won Production GT on the Paris by Night II rally that afternoon. So we were quite excited about our chances. We started the event with heavy fog and dust. We picked up where we had left off on Paris by Night, turning in the 2nd fastest time after Arthur Odero-Jowi, who was first on the road. The fog cleared a little for the remaining stages, and Todd Jarvey and Rich Faber soon took 2nd away from us, leaving us 1st in PGT and 3rd overall. On one of the later stages, Jowi checked in late at a control, picking up 2 minutes of penalty and moving us up into 2nd overall. It was too bad for Arthur, but it felt good to see Todd and Rich pick up their first ClubRally overall win. I was happy to score my 3rd consecutive class win, which put me in 3rd place in the SCCA Central Division for Production GT. |
